This might go very good, or very bad.

Exempt is for mot and tax purposes. Registration applies equally to all vehicles. The engine number will give away the size though finding them can sometimes be awkward.

It's not the power that will cause insurance hassle but that it is not standard. 90% of insurers will outright refuse to insure it as it falls outside their logarythms and they have no understanding of what a lumpy cam is. The specialists such as Flux will fully understand what the car is and what the mods mean and will have no problem quoting. If running it as an extra vehicle then specialist insurers are fine. The real grief is if it's going to be your only vehicle as a current insurer is likely to say no and changing the car at some future point is going to leave a specialist wondering why you are asking to insure a Mondeo with them.
I agree, the web-site I went on did ask a lot of questions about mods, so clearly it all needs to be declared or you find you in-sewer-ants is "null & void" after an incident. All I can do is my best to declare what I know about. Let's see just how bad it gets.

Surprisingly the owner of the UK-Mini's business has e-mailed me today to say "...discrepancies on classic cars are not at all unusual but I can make these changes online to its V5 when I register it to you if you want me to". I have replied "Yes please, many thanks."

So that may resolve all of that stuff. But I will definitely need to declare all the mods to the Insurer for sure.

and.....it's here! Oh my goodness look how it is dwarfed by its 10YO modern day BMW equivalent the "Mini All4" and by my 25YO Range Rover.

My wife says it looks like her car has given birth to a child. :)

I wish I could like that post TWICE!
It needs some of those big Hella driving lights, to give it that "serious" look ;)
The scary part is its 89BHP and 100mph capability on a rolling road setup. I shan't be trying any of that thank you very much.

Way back in my "car" days, I worked for 2 different sports car shops, near the Lime Rock track, in NW Connecticut.
One shop was a "British Motorcar" shop, specializing in Morgan restos, the other was a general exotic car place - Porsche, Jaguar, Aston, etc, etc.

I met a lot of people involved in VSCA racing, from the proximity of the track - I got to work on some of the cars.
I heard more than once - During a mixed class race, if it was a nice sunny day, the races always went to the big HP cars - Ferraris, etc.
However, if it started raining, the Mini's would win, every time - Nothing was able to hold the track with them. 😁

Lightweight, a wheel on each corner and FWD.

Brings back memories of the morning entretainment at high school : watch the 6ft math teacher unfold out of his mini. A true contortionnist

So, Danny, how has this progressed?
Do you have the wee beastie all properly registered and insured now?
Inquiring minds want to know .............

I am still awaiting the V5 (registration document). However, when I check the vehicle details online it now says (as of yesterday's check) that it is a Grey 1275cc mini and the new V5 was created on the 19th of this month. I think this means that its arrival here is imminent. :)
My next step will be to get an official valuation from the British Mini Club and then try and get an "agreed value" insurance policy.
Given the Xmas shutdown in the UK I doubt that I will get the car legal for on-road use before mid to late January. But that is OK.
It is sitting under an all-weather cover on the hardstanding at the front of my house. It is blocked in by my wife's BMW mini and has a disklok steering wheel cover on it, so unless someone HIAB lifts it out of the garden it is safe & sound. :)
Thanks for asking.

Beautiful! Congrats! My steering wheel origins from my late fathers Mini. I never saw the Mini, but that car always had a special place in my heart and the wheel reminds me on daily basis of may father.:)
Merry X-mas, btw!
