Special Project: Recumbent Trike/Camper

I was in the hope of sending an email to someone, but here it is... you have an electric tractor in the list. I need to build up from that format, boosting the power/mph factor, solar power, etc. Was in the hope that someone "qualified" could help modify the tractor plans (extending the frame, so as to accommodate the camper section). I need to be able to run at 40 mph and hold charge for a minimum of 5 hours+.

Thanks in advance!

www.pioneervalleypuppetcompany.com * I'll be posting a page at this site regarding our build; the final product being used to tour bike trails and campgrounds throughout New England next Spring and into the fall. The show will be featured at various locations along the way, raising $$$ for the MS Society.

There's a few threads on campers on here

40mph is a bit of an ask given the aero of a camper and the yard mule is built for strength not speed so is not necessarily the best starting point. A quad may be a better base. For 40mph I'd think a minimum of 3kw of power will be needed. On a diamond frame bike 2kw will generally hit 40mph but you'll need more given the weight and aero.

Yes indeed, you should start with a very large quad. Maybe find one with a dead gas engine and use it as a base. No part of my YardMule is going to do what you want. You need full suspension on all wheels and probably a very large lithium bank.

I agree with the idea of a quad unit, been mulling that over (I just think recumbent trikes are super cool)... I'm looking at something that more resembles an old Model A Truck with a box on the back (borrowing floorplans from a pick-up camper).

I've looked at the possibility of using an old golf-cart motor for power, but uncertain as to how to create a hybrid scenario to allow for more of a "Power Assist" for getting down the road; A) It's Big and B) It's going to be heavy.

You had better check your local laws before you settle on a Quad , I understand in some states more than 3 wheels means licensing EVEN if it only has pedal power.
