Many thanks for all your comments and I hope it brightened up your Sunday afternoon
Just a bit of background I first met Simon at the Worlds2024 he was riding an Ice trike and called ' Likely Last ' i was on a 2 week to cobble together Python trike and we had a good battle that I only just won.
So when I heard he was having a pedal car built for the Solo class it seemed a good plan to get or build a car and have a go.
So what happened at Evesham ?
2 main things happened and to be honest I am not sure why.
a) Simon turned up with a very very nice new Royce built car that was as DannyC says 23kg [ it was unlikely mine was 30kg , more like 33kg ] and he was blindingly fast.
So it was obvious to me as he lapped me 8-10 times in the first hour this was not going to be a fair fight , so the first thing I did was stop counting him going past and then I had to stop watching which junior cars were passing me first the under 16 then the under 14 and then the under 12's I just had nothing to fight them with. We had agreed to pit at about 2 hours I think I made it to 1:50 hr it was a long walk to the toilets i was stuffing sandwiches in on the walk and when I got back to the car gave it a cursory once over loaded up some more biscuits and filled the camel back and got back on the track. At about 3:20 hrs I stopped for a second time for a loo stop however by then I was in real trouble i could no longer eat the biscuits and the walk was painful. So back into the car [ the black dog soon turned up again ] and I came to realise having seen other people describing these long distance events that whether you finished or not was down to your mental attitude. I had a chuckle when I though I have just spent 2 months de-bugging this car so it will not fail today and for the last few laps I have been praying for it to break down so I can go to the pits and retire !
So I had to start thinking differently first I took a body inventory.
Feet hurt - no
Ankles hurt - no
calf muscles a little pain just no power left
knees hurt - slightly
thigh muscles a little pain just no power left
hips - no
heart - still working as it should
lungs - no problems breathing
I did this about every 15 minutes
So to continue just means stop thinking about the pain in the legs and concentrate on getting the next five laps done , there was a lot of encouragement from the track side Pink Panther racing seemed to have adopted me/my car and where constantly jumping up and down and shouting ' come on car 45 ' that was really uplifting. near the end one of the marshals [ a Royce man ] was giving me updates how many miles the lead car had left to do and an expected finish time. there is no bell [ which I had forgot ] as in BHPC racing so it came as a complete surprise to see the chequered flag out and me to have finished.
Whilst Cummings were a 4 man [ I think ] team they had a lot of car problems , however even if I have been told say 10 - 15 laps before the end I could beat them if I upped my game , there was nothing to up my game with.
b) I am still unsure whether the car had a sticking rear brake or not , it certainly felt like I was pedaling through treacle after the first stop that could have easily have been shear fatigue.
I realised I came close to having a personal injury that could have finished my leisure cycling for good.
It was also obvious that there is no way I am subjecting myself to that for another 4 rounds this year knowing I will come last in every race.
So I have contacted the British Pedal Car Club and informed them that Sloth Racing has been disbanded and the car will shortly be on the Pedal Car amnesty page for sale to another team.
