Quad build.

Monday we finished my front-wheel mount on my quad and today we worked on the rear suspension and the diff.

The rear suspension isn't ready yet, but we did a lot more than I expected that we would do.

The rear suspension arm. Not finished yet, be3there comes a triangle part on it. This will make that we can adjust the angle in 2 directions, so we can line out the wheels.
It also makes it stiffer and stronger.
203mm disk brakes, just as in the front. The disk brake mount isn't welded on it yet. We do that as we mount the wheels.

A fast test mount and everything fits very well.

One bearing on the end, because we changed the design. The other bearing comes on an other adjustable mount, so we get a triangle.
Using these parts, makes that we can change the design while building.

Testfitting the diff. The 20mm axles need to be longer, but we drilled the mounting holes.
The gears fit, even do I used smaller ones in my design, there is enough space for the bigger ones.

The 28t gear goes to the motor. That gets a 16t gear. That makes the gear ratio 1,75. This so we get more torque. We loose topspeed, but with a 2000w to 2500w motor on 48v, the speed will still be high enough. The quad is also not meant for racing. We need power for off-road. Still the quads will easily go over 25km/h.

I also decided how I want my camper part that comes on it.
It will be from foam with fiberglass. This makes it lightweight, strong and good isolated.
The main part will be 1,2mx1mx1m. In the front comes a plate tgat folds out with fabrick. This makes the total length to sleep in, 2m and the with by the wheels about 70cm, while the rest will be 80cm.the 70cm will be by my legs. Also this is ad least 10cm wider than I have in my current caravan.
The seat will be removable, so I can fold out the front.
Also will it get a roof over my seat and a windows that goes to the front bumper. This so I can ride also in the rain.
The complete camera part with roof, will be removable, so I can place an other luggage mount on the back. Also with a removable roof.
On the caravan build, I ad 3 camera's on in the rear on wifi tgat goes to my phone and 2 rearview camera's on the sides as mirrors with 2 5 inch screens that I mount to the roof.
Indicates in the rear and front. Brake lights and some big lights on the roof.
Heather and air ventilation in the caravan part.
Also 220v connections in and outside the caravan.

Hopefully we can finish the quads soon. Because I want to ride it.
 
It is strong enough.
I am not afraid that it will come loose. If Zo, I will use longer bolds and put nuts behind.
For the wheel ut is surtenly no problem. It can be open, because it only needs to stop the spinning.
 
Today all 4 wheels where on the base quad mounted. The rear arms where not ready yet, so the rear wheels where not staying straight, but everything fitted.
The diff axles need the to be straightened, but that will be done as the other diff is also ready.
Monday we need to work on some other bikes, but after that, we go further with the quads.

Just when we rolled the quad out to tace some pictures, Paul arrived.
His phyton is also in the photo's, just as my Trike in the background.

With all 4 wheels. Keeping the wheels straight without out the triangle part on the rear arms was hard, but we could see how it looks with the wheels on it.

The size difference is big and this is the small version. The other quad has a 20cm longer Wheelbase and in the rear it is about 40cm longer.
 
Ok so I went to see some Dutch boy's , you should see the sheer amount of toys they have to play with !

There was stuff that in the UK is rare or very expensive [ or both ! ] just lying around in every nook and cranny !

Lurking in one of the workshops was this ?

No not Emiel silly !!!
His quad frame , saying it is 20cm longer at the front and 40cm longer at the rear [ IIRC ] does NOT prepare you for seeing it in the flesh !

Hahaha yes my frame is big. It will be even longer as the front is on. But that will come when it stands on all 4 wheels, because than it doesn't fit inside.

We worked on the quads and it starts to get shape.
We are now working on the front part.
Seats and the front.
We changed things and found out an other way to mount the seat on my quad. I need to be able to remove the seat and make the front flat.
In the end we came up with a simple system that us light and easy to mount.
It isn't finished yet, but I think we finish it this Friday.

With the sears mounted, we can now see where and how we do the handlebars and see where the pedals come. They will be adjustable and we mij red it already on the quad from Badass-cycles.

I mounted the hp velotechnic seat. I can always switch to the other seat and make a mount for that, but I think that for long trips tgat I am planning to do, this seat ads a bit more comfort.

Schlumpfdrive mounted.
Mine also gets a schlumpfdrive.
Gearratio is 1 - 1 and 2,5 - 1.
The asset will be an 8s 13 to 32t.
I will start with a 53t front gear.
That gives 53 and 21,2 on the over drive.
Maybe I go smaller, but I decide that after testing.
The quads can go fast, but they aren't meant to go fast.

The front boom will be shortened, but we do that Friday.

I will post more next week probably.
Hopefully we can than mount the rear arms and wheels, the diff, motor and derailleur.
After that, finish the steering and ad the chainline and chains.

A few weeks where does the time go ?

I was envious of the work stands , although they were a struggle for you as the Quads got bigger and heavier and so tried my best to copy using a workmate , it certainly works most of the time although I really needed it on castors so I could swing it around instead of having to take the bike off and reverse it ...

Yes Paul, it gets a lot harder as it got bigger and heavier. But we are with 2. That makes it a lot easier than as you do it alone. Turning the frame around is hard as you need to do it alone.

You made a nice setup. That makes it a lot easier to work on it.

The seats and the pedals make a big difference in how it looks.
 
We worked yesterday ad the rear arms. Everything seems to work very well. Maddox made some parts for us, so we can finish the quads.

We tested the quad. Badass-cycles went down the stairs with it, even do there where no breaks and steering on it. But even without aligning the wheels, the quad was rolling good.

This is the diff with the cassette and the 28t that goes to the motor. Maddox made the axles and they are now nice and straight.

The rear arm is adjustable. Here you can see that it still needs to be adjusted to set the wheels straight. It goes actually very easy.

That is the system. A m12 with some bolds to change the alignment ant the plate can also be moved up and down so the wheels can be set straight.

I played with it a bit and it is very easy to adjust.

I ordered a display that comes on my koga Miyata. The display that is on there goes to my quad.
The controller I have is a 1500 to over 3000w.
I will turn it down to about 2500 or lower. The gearing will also increase the torque a lot, so I don't need the full power.
The quad is also not for speed but I think that it will be faster that moost E-Bikes. But for now we will set a speed limit, because it will be something new on the roads, so we expect to be stopped by tge police. 😂 😂
25kmh is also fast enough, especially off-road and for touring.
