Dang found something else I would like to build

Hi all

Always wanted a rowing bike , unsure of their stability verses the hills I would crawl up slowly , then I found this ?

Bit tall however I am sure we can work with that ?

I have no idea why they have built a monster truck version of it. The very fact of your moving mass equals less stability so I'd have built it as low as possible and just used a pulley to transfer drive rearwards.
 
That should be your mission, Paul - To re-imagine that thing as a low slung speed machine.
Keep us posted on the prototype progress :)
 
I would have two questions after looking at the design...

- How well will it steer without having to lean enough to lift a rear wheel? Looks like a solid rear axle.
- If you had to apply hard braking, would the rowing lever not dive forward and eject you over the front?
 
Only the concept interests me ?
Quad + rowing otherwise it is quite awful... ;)

The long under-slung part of rowing bar is a puzzle , is it because there is a need for that amount of leverage or travel per stroke or some other reason for it's length ?

To be honest I have often looked down at my Python trike and wondered if it could become a rowing trike ?
I sort of envisage a front fork pivoted just above the front axle pivot and driving another sprocket on the left side of the normal cranks , feet down both sides and no crank arms or pedals ?
It would then use all the gears as normal and steering would be a combination of feet pushing the front end [ just under the BB ] and twisting of the new front fork with some sort of short handle bars on the top to hold the controls ?

Only hard thing [ but not impossible to implement ] would be to get the seat to slide for and aft on the main beam , it would have very restricted forward movement before contacting the front end pivot ?

ps suspect I am a dreamer .......
 
Maybe the vertical / fore-'n aft action of the underslung part of the lever could be converted to a horizontal sweep, instead.
I'm sure various cleverly engineered linkages could be employed for that, and thus reduce the height needed drastically :whistle:
