Q-Factor as narrow as practical with and without a lathe :-)

It will more likely be that repeated stressing will be the potential killer than brute force in real use given the high tensile nature of the shaft. Very difficult to replicate that in any test though. I too expect this to pass.

A new Kitty in my life

Got the shift cable bracketry made and the lot transfered to the installed engine. The propshaft misses everything nicely but it's tight to the top of the tunnel meaning some very ground down bolts will need to be used for the shifter. Those bolts will have to go in from underneath and the nuts...

Interesting Tilting Trike seen at a BHPC race meeting

Aye, if the front wheels don't lean you need a wider track as you move towards the wheel that moves towards you. Look forward to seeing it if possible.

Interesting Tilting Trike seen at a BHPC race meeting

Lean-steer only really work properly for one particular bend and speed combination but I did discover that you can do the majority of bend and speed combinations on the one setting. Getting that one setting right is somewhat hard though unless the functions were separate allowing you to...

Q-Factor as narrow as practical with and without a lathe :-)

Given most recumbent frames are beams I've not tried to use very thin steel as it's just a non starter. Diamond frame bikes can use sub 1mm steel tubes as they are in perfect compression or tension but even they tend to have thicker metal at the ends where they are welded or brazed. Beams tend...

Interesting Tilting Trike seen at a BHPC race meeting

Taddies are very hard to get to tilt properly. Deltas have well proven methods that work to varying degrees all the way up to excellent. Was the lean separate from the steer?

The joys of failing to back-up your files. It's much less effort to use a cloud service than disc recovery tools.

Increasing the welded area is always a step in the right direction even if that step isn't big enough.

Q-Factor as narrow as practical with and without a lathe :-)

Plug welding is notoriously hard to perfect. Lots of competent welders have had failed plugs on joining bits of car together. It's much easier to weld the edges of the tube and should create a much bigger welded area too. The tube may need to be shorter to keep weld off the bearing seat. If...

    Tadpole trike.

One of the reasons most home builders use steel and weld is durability. You definitely need to monitor bolt holes closely.

Quad Pedal Car - 2025 late Xmas/early Birthday present ?

A possibility Paul. Equally the broken side could be leess well aligned causing extra stresses.

    Slow new quad build.

I don't think those pictures show any real difference. In both, the rear wheels are level with the driver's head. I concede that the Royce system can have the rear wheels further forward but it's not shown there. The grey one has a lot of body behind the driver and the driver is male and...

Not you Paul. The principle of the drive is the issue in using an M8 bolt.

    New Finnish Quad Arcus III

The turning circle no doubt refers to the very long wheelbase quad. The taddy's would be much smaller. Those wooden frames hint at a different body construction method than the taddy.

A new Kitty in my life

As I get older I find my mind is regressing to my teenage years in a futile attempt to deny reality. The issue is the mind writing cheques the body can't cash. As for seeing Kittens for sale no sooner did I buy this one than I saw loads of them. That may have been an effect of joining the Kitten...
